Sigiriya

The spectacular rock fortress of Sigiriya is one of Sri Lanka's major attractions. A tough climb of over 1200 steps will provide superb views and lead the way to a gallery of well-preserved frescoes. The most famous feature is the fifth century paintings found in a depression on the rock face more than 100 metres above ground level. Beautiful water gardens and the remains of a royal palace can be seen en route to this ancient city.
